Release of the proposal for a regulation on “Deep Sea Fisheries”

The European Commission is announcing the adoption of a proposal for a regulation, defining the rules concerning fisheries management conducted in deep water for the next ten years. The text proposes an historic measure: the two years phase out of bottom trawling as well as the prohibition of fishing with gillnets. This measure concerns all European vessels as well as foreign vessels who wish to fish in European waters.
