Publication of a study showing the disasterous management of deep sea fisheries

Sebastian Villasante and his co-authors analysed the scientific recommendations as well as the total allowable catches (TAC’s) for deep sea fish between 2002 and 2011. They concluded that in 60% of cases the quotas fixed for deep-water species are higher than recommended by scientific advice, and that the catch exceeded these quotas in 50% of cases.
