NGOs object to the MSC certification of a sardine fishery in Brittany
05 January 2010
NGOs and small-scale fishing groups have submitted a joint objection to the MSC certification of sardine fishery using a specific type of seine — bolinche — in southern Brittany. The aim was to object to the imminent entry into these small, well-managed artisanal fisheries of a few, much larger units, which would lead to an increase in fishing effort by about 80%.
The objection was submitted by the following organizations: Association des ligneurs de la Pointe de Bretagne, Collectif Bar Européen, BLOOM, Greenpeace, WWF.
