“Deep sea marine life must be protected from fishing and other human activity. Exploiting resources of the deep seas will bring little benefit to the economy in the short term, while it will cause severe consequences on marine wildlife in the medium and long term. Succeeding in an environmental transition depends on the sustainable management of the planet’s natural resources. This sustainable management starts on the deep ocean floors where biodiversity is irreplaceable, uniquely rich and valuable to humanity and the planet’s ecosystems.”
