Great news! BLOOM is now a member of Shark Alliance!
More great news! The Tokyo Sea Life Park has generously given us a goblin shark specimen, which will be added to the superb collection of deep-sea creatures on display in The Deep the exhibition.
WORKING TOWARDS MARINE POLICY CHANGE
An increasingly important collaboration with decision-making/political circles has led to considerable steps forward being made. Regular meetings with French president Nicolas Sarkozy’s advisors on fisheries, the environment, and sustainable development, and Claire Nouvian’s participation in a roundtable during Mr. Sarkozy’s visit to Prince Albert II of Monaco in April 2008 have culminated in a French vote in favor of an EU law regulating illegal fishing in June 2008 and the development of a plan to protect the Mediterranean deep sea.
The success of these initiatives has inspired BLOOM to form the first coalition of NGOs focusing on marine conservation. The founding members are the French branches of the WWF, Greenpeace, Shark Alliance, the IUCN, the Fondation Nicolas Hulot, and of course, BLOOM Association. Working together means that the growing pressures facing the marine environment will be better voiced and better heard by decision-makers.
