Dodgy MSC certification for dogfish
In August 2012, the MSC certified as “sustainable” the U.S. longline, gillnet, and trawl fisheries taking spiny dogfish despite the "myriad" concerns raised by the NGO "Shark Advocates International" (SAI), which took part in the MSC consultation process for these fisheries. Sonja Fordham, founder of SAI, considered that spiny dogfish could not be thought of as an eco-friendly seafood choice, and that the MSC certification may well exacerbate current problems
